Maricopa County spotlights 'Love the Unloved' vultures

Maricopa County, Arizona, is highlighting its "Love the Unloved" campaign about the turkey vulture. The effort notes the bird's appearance and its role in the ecosystem.

The birds have a bald head, a six-foot wingspan, and zero interest in harming people.

Turkey vultures are professional cleanup crew members, helping remove carrion (a fancy word for animal carcasses) from roadways and trails. They keep ecosystems healthy by doing the job nobody else wants. They are not creepy. Necessary. And every March, they get the spotlight they deserve.

Residents are invited to join the event in Wickenburg on All Vulture’s Eve (March 13th) on the pedestrian bridge off US 60, where hundreds of migrating vultures roost in the large trees each evening.

Wild at Heart (@WildAtHeartRaptors) brings a live vulture and other birds, and partners like @AZGFD, @ArizonaPublicLands, and local agencies share how this migration shapes our region.

Let them soar. #LoveTheUnloved #MaricopaCountyParks
