USF Dons Reach WCC Tournament Final, Two Wins Behind Championship
The University of San Francisco baseball team ended its season with a run to the WCC conference tournament finals. The Dons recorded 28 victories and finished third in the conference standings with a 15-12 league record, their best finish and most league wins since 2021.
USF also earned the No. 3 seed in the WCC Tournament. The team secured back-to-back conference postseason bids for the first time in program history, after reaching the tournament postseason in consecutive years.
At the four-day WCC tournament in Scottsdale, USF defeated Santa Clara in the opening round with a 10-4 win. The victory was the Dons’ fourth win over the Broncos during the season and marked the program’s first postseason win since 2013.
USF then added wins over top-seeded Gonzaga and No. 2-seeded Pacific to reach its first WCC Tournament Championship game in the conference’s current format. Needing two wins to take the championship, the Dons posted a 9-8 victory over No. 5-seeded Saint Mary’s to force a winner-take-all contest on the final day.
After the season, head coach Rob DiToma signed a four-year contract extension. Deputy Athletics Director Stephanie Shrieve-Hawkins said: “Rob has led, and continues to lead, with high character and integrity - investing his time and heart in our student-athletes, his staff, and serving as a highly respected partner in the department and university.”
