CGFD Shares Driving Tips for Monsoon Dust Storms

Casa Grande Fire Department said Arizona’s monsoon season runs from June through September. The department said the season brings increased humidity and the potential for dangerous weather, including thunderstorms, heavy rain, lightning, hail, strong winds, flash flooding, dust storms and extreme heat.

The department said it is focusing this week on dust storms. It cited guidance from the Arizona Department of Transportation for driving when conditions create low- or zero-visibility.

ADOT guidance said drivers should pull their vehicle off the road as far to the right as possible when visibility is low. ADOT also said drivers should turn off their lights, set the parking brake, and take their foot off the brake pedal. The department said these steps reduce the chances that other drivers mistake a stopped vehicle as the one to follow.

Casa Grande Fire Department directed residents to azdot.gov for more information on safety tips for driving during a storm.
